P&Z Work Session:

The Carroll County Planning & Zoning Commission has scheduled a September 15th work session to consider both the Mt. Airy and Finksburg employment campus zone proposals.  There is no public comment allowed at this meeting.  The Finksburg Planning Area Council held a special meeting last month where 85 people attended.  Most were concerned about water and sewer problems associated with such a proposal.  Others voiced problems with increased traffic.   Everyone is encouraged to attend the 9/15 meeting and letters to the P&Z commission are permitted at the work session.  The commission met August 9th to review the proposed Finksburg Corridor Plan and employment zoning for land east of Gerstell Academy.  Two- P&Z commissioners are recommending the proposed corridor plan include only the Finksburg corridor, which is the area along Route 140 from the Baltimore County line to Bethel Road.  It would not include the entire 4th election district, which the FPAC executive board is in favor of.

Next FPAC Meeting:

The next FPAC general membership meeting is Thursday September 23rd.  Tom Devilbiss, county hydrologist will discuss public water and septic systems in the county, streams and what future droughts will lead to.  The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Sandymount United Methodist Church.

Judge To Rule On Three Developers’ Challenge:

A decision on three developers’ challenge of the legality of the Carroll County Commissioners’ yearlong development freeze could come soon.  A county judge said August 26th he would issue a decision after hearing arguments.  One of the development projects that were not allowed to move forward is in Finksburg.  Carroll’s yearlong freeze ended in June, halting the processing development of about 17-hundred lots.  The Maryland Court of Appeals is scheduled to hear arguments September 30th on the county’s appeal of a preliminary injunction that Circuit Judge Michael Galloway issued in February in favor of another developer for a 153-lot subdivision.
